This is one series from the "Tokyo" sequence of work that Yamauchi has devoted himself to since 1980. On display are snapshots taken in areas like Shinjuku, Shibuya and Asakusa around 2006.
Compared to the unchanging and relatively constant facial expressions and gestures of people, fashions and cityscapes change at such a radical pace that Yamauchi cannot help but be dumbfounded. On the other hand, such cities are always filled with various scenes and interesting encounters, all of which stimulate the photographer. Yamauchi tackles the medium of photography in order to reflect upon himself.
