What do you imagine when you hear the word "transformation"? Some might think of heroes like Ultraman and Kamen Rider from TV animations and manga. Metamorphoses often refer to mythical stories of human transforming into other animals or plants.

In Okamoto's work, various sorts of mysterious animals, humans, and monster-like creatures often appear. Not only those subjects that are alive, but also machines and tools are depicted as if they are alive in actuality. The motifs employed in his work are humorous, sometimes seemingly sad, or frightening at times. As you take a closer look, those animals and creatures might start to look like Okamoto himself.

Taking "metamorphoses" as an entering point, this exhibition explores "stories" that Okamoto narrated in his works.
